We partner with a number of vendors throughout the state of Rhode Island to provide durable medical equipment loans at no cost.
Those actively registered with ALS Rhode Island are automatically eligible for our Equipment Loan Program. We strongly encourage having a professional evaluation by Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and/or Speech Therapy prior to requesting any equipment.

Hoyer Lifts
A Hoyer lift is a mechanical device used to safely transfer people with limited mobility from one place to another, such as from a bed to a wheelchair. It uses a sling and a lifting mechanism—either manual or powered—to raise and lower the person while reducing physical strain on caregivers.

Hospital Beds
Electric hospital beds and air mattresses may be loaned, depending on availability.
Rollators
A rollator, also known as a “rolling walker,” isa mobility aid consisting of a frame with three or four wheels, handlebars with hand brakes, and usually a built-in seat. Unlike traditional walkers that must be lifted with each step, a rollator is pushed forward, allowing for a smoother and more natural walking gait.
AAC Devices
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices are tools that help individuals who have difficulty with spoken language to communicate. They range from simple, non-electronic tools to high-tech electronic devices that can generate speech.
OBi Feeding Devices
The Obi is a specialized robotic self-feeding device designed to help individuals with limited upper-body mobility eat independently. It functions as a robotic arm that scoops food from four compartments and delivers it to a user’s mouth at their own pace.
Register with us to access free, personalized services—available to all individuals living with ALS, regardless of insurance coverage or immigration status.
Once registered, you’ll meet with our Care Services Team, who will work closely with you to identify your current needs and plan for future support. Research shows that people with ALS who receive comprehensive, individualized care often experience a significantly improved quality of life.
